I am trying to get the dotj calendar to popup in a div tag that is of a restricted size. how can I get the the calendar to sit on a different layer but still update the input field in the div tag?

I'm not quite following what you're trying to do. Are you trying to pop up a div layer that contains the calendar, in addition to other UI widgets? I assume so, since you can use mode="popup" and width="xxx" to get a restricted size calendar to popup.
